Elementary:
King David writes in Psalms 33:3: "Sing to him a new song; play skillfully and shout for joy." Elementary students in Pre-Kindergarten through fifth grade have music classes once a week. In addition to learning healthy singing technique and the basics of rhythm and notation, third grade is involved in a keyboarding unit, fourth grade learns to play the recorder, and fifth grade explores composition through drumming and computer software as well as learning to play chimes.
The elementary choir performs three times during the school year: the Christmas Program, Pastors Day, and Grandparents Day. The fourth grade recorder class also performs. Our goal in music is that students would discover the joyful pleasure of worshiping their Heavenly Father with the expression of their very souls in music through singing and playing a variety of classroom instruments.
Secondary:
It has been noted in several studies that engaging in music education contributes to higher academic achievement as well as many life skills that affect our lives well beyond our school years. To continue to foster that growth, our secondary music program aims to give our students as many opportunities as possible to be involved with learning music skills.
Sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students have band as a required class three days a week. Once students enter high school, band is offered as an elective. The bands perform three times per year at the Christmas Concert, Spring Concert, and at the ACSI Music Festival. Our worship team is made up of students in seventh through twelfth grade and lead singing in chapel once a week. Students continue to hone their skills and, more importantly, put into practice ministry for the glory of God!
